Prices & Booking of Practical Test

You can apply for the practical test once you have passed the theory test - the last big hurdle. Your driving instructor will tell you when she / he believes you are ready to take it.

Your test will be held at the local driving test centre.

There are 3 ways of booking the test, by:

Phone

The lines are open Monday - Friday, 8am - 6pm, and you can book your test using a credit card. When you call you'll need these details ready:

Your driving licence number
Personal details (name, address, DOB, telephone number etc)
The type of you want to take (Car, Motorbike, PCV, LGV etc)
Your prefered test date (weekday, Sat, Evenings)
The ADI number of your instructor or driving school code number
When you'd like to take the test
Credit card details
Whether you have any disabilities or special circumstances

Once you've given these details, you'll be given a date and time. Normally there's a wait of between 3 - 12 weeks for a test. This can be changed if its unsuitable, however you must give at least 10 working days to cancel the test.

Practical Test Times

Monday to Friday practical test times are available from your local test centre. The times range from 08:20 to 15:27. Weekday evening and Saturday tests are available contact your local test centre to find the times.

Online

Online booking is a great new way to book your practical test. DSA introduced online booking in late October 2003 for the sole purpose of efficiency and ease. All you need is:-

Your driving licence number
Theory test pass certificate
Your debit/credit card details for payment

By Post

You have the option to book your practical test by post if you don't have a cheque book or credit card. All you need to do is fill out the form DL26 (for additional notes to help you fill this out pick up a DL26/1) from either a theory test centre, your driving instructor or from a driving test centre. Once you have completed this form, post it to:-

Send either a cheque or a postal order to the value of the test. Do not send any cash.

Booking an evening or a Saturday

You maybe able to book an evening or a Saturday for your test, however this could be more expensive for you:

The Motorcycle Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) Test costs approximately £80, each school has their own price. Once passed, you'll then receive your CBT certificate.

After Booking

Confirmation of your practical test will be sent to you after booking it. Ensure that you check the following information is correct:

Date & time of test.
The test centre & type of test.
The cancellation date; you'll lose your fee if you cancel after this date.
