You should now have reached a point where you are prepared and fully decisive in what you want.
Before you begin negotiations with the seller try and ring around different places to see if you can get a better price else where same goes for if you're intending to buy a used car "shop" around don't settle for the first car you see - patience is a virtue of which you are sure to reap the benefits.
Make sure your getting exactly what you want. Don't allow yourself to be swayed into something else.
When it comes to the payment of the car there will be various options available to you. These are cash, cheque and finance. Be aware of 0% finance offers from a car dealer as they may sound great, but when you look closer you may be required to pay 50% deposit at the end of the financial agreement, this means you may have to pay a lump sum to own the car. Always read the small print on contracts.
One of the really important aspects of buying a car is checking the vehicle identification number (VIN). This tends to be found on a metal plate on the engine, it matches with the one on the registration document. The VIN number is 17 digits long, all numbers equally spaced, if the VIN number has been removed ask why - it should be there!
VIN Numbers should be stamped somewhere else on the car, this tend to be under the bonnet or on the panel of the drivers side. It is important to check.
Always check windows doors for any marks / etchings which could have been the result of theft. Check all locks match, there's no sign of force entry and that the locking of the petrol cap hasn't been forced or replaced, if they have then questions need to be asked and suspicions need to be raised.
Make sure you check the registration plates on the car. Check to see if they registration plates seem newer than the car, see if there are any extra screw holes and see if the plates look as though they have been removed at any time.
Never buy without proper registration document / certificate even if the seller says it has been sent to the DVLA (Driving & Vehicle Licensing Agency) for changes. Wait until it returns. Make sure also, that the sellers name and address is on the certificate. Check for a water proof mark stating DVLA is on this certificate to ensure it's not a fake.
