Driving Instructors

A driving instructor is an individual who is licensed to receive money for providing driving lessons. In the UK the standards set for becoming a driving instructor are relatively high and potential driving instructors are required to pass several demanding tests to ensure they are up to standard. Upon successful completion of the test the driving instructor is then qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor licensed by the DSA. When choosing driving instructors it is important to ensure that they are an Approved Driving Instructor, their vehicle will carry the appropriate insignia to show this.

Driving instructors will typically charge approximately twenty pounds an hour for their services; although this can vary particularly as the price of petrol fluctuate. A driving instructor’s vehicle is always equipped with dual controls, a clutch and break on the passenger side of the car which can override the controls on the driver’s side. These dual controls allow driving instructors to be in constant control of the situation, which is particularly useful with inexperienced or nervous drivers. A driving instructor’s car will also usually be equipped with several strategically placed mirrors which can be used to monitor the pupils eye movements and ensure they are performing the appropriate mirror checks.

Making use of driving instructors’ services is the best way to ensure that you pass a driving test as they are familiar with the content of the test and are fully qualified by the DSA to give driving lessons.
