Driving Lessons

Driving lessons with a specially qualified driving instructor are an invaluable resource for people who are learning to drive. In the UK it is not necessary to take driving lessons with an instructor in order to take a driving test, although it is highly advisable and most people do as the instructors know and understand the content of the driving test. Although driving lessons are the key to preparing oneself for a driving test it is also wise to gain some driving experience from elsewhere if possible to supplement the driving lessons. For example many young people who are taking driving lessons will also drive in their parents care to gain further experience.

Driving lessons vary in cost, but are typically around £20 per hour; this of course is subject to change, particularly when fuel prices increase. Driving lessons are available from independent instructors or larger national driving schools. Many people find they have greater success with driving lessons from an independent instructor, although it this varies and it is important to find an instructor that you like and can get along with for successful driving lessons.

Some instructors are also qualified to teach advanced driving lessons, such as the pass plus scheme, for people who have passed their driving test. Completion of these advanced driving lessons is usually taken into account by insurance firms who will provide discounted rates to those who have taken them.
